Student DataIntroductionThe information provided in this section is related to student admissions and enrolment. Student data can be categorised as being either:
Data reported to DEEWR and to other government departments such as the ABS is originally drawn from production systems. Which data is included in a particular submission is defined by the organisation responsible for collecting it. Definitions of data elements usually differ somewhat from the ANU's internal data definitions, and the data submitted are typically "snapshots" as at particular points in time. However these data are generally more reliable as they have gone through many validations before being submitted, and are also comparable to the data submitted by other institutions. For reporting during the admissions process and to track enrolments throughout the year data is drawn directly from production systems (such as Student21 or the UAC system). This means that the information can be updated regularly to incorporate recent changes such as dropped units of study or altered preferences. However, data in production systems is often not 100% accurate, especially if it has only recently been entered (such as during busy periods in the admissions cycle). As such, if up-to-the-minute information is not required the reports based on official datasets should be the preferred source of information. ImportantBe aware that some of the data reported here is provisional or unofficial. Choose the correct reports for the question you are trying to answer. If in doubt, please contact manager.stats@anu.edu.au for more information. Admissions ReportingThese pages contain data on UAC and direct applications, and continuous higher degree research application monitoring reports. Enrolment MonitoringThese contain weekly updates on enrolments and load throughout the academic year. These allow the tracking of drop-out rates and help in the planning of mid-year intakes, among other things. Official DEEWR DatasetsThese pages contain data derived from the university's official submissions to DEEWR (the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations). These data are captured at specific points in time rather than continuously throughout the year. They are the primary data used to draw comparisons between institutions, and are the most useful for investigating trends over several years. For consistency, only statistics based on the DEEWR datasets should be used for external communications or marketing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
