Datasets

Introduction

The reports on these pages are based on a range of datasets collected at the ANU for a variety of purposes. Much of it is collected in order to comply with government statutory reporting requirements, or as a by-product of the day-to-day operation of the university.

The reports provided summarise the data in pivot tables. These provide a means for users to interrogate the data to obtain the information that is most useful. The underlying data records can also be accessed through the pivot table interface. For more information about pivot tables and how they are used, and to access a self-learn training manual, go here. Statistical Services also offers day-long pivot table training sessions at various times throughout the year. Please contact Dave Marr for information, or to book a place.

Important

While not all of the reports provided here are confidential, they are provided to staff as a resource to aid decision-making. Information should not be disclosed to persons outside the university. In particular, the pivot tables themselves should not be provided to other organisations or individuals. All official requests for statistics should be referred to Statistical Services. If in doubt, please contact manager.stats@anu.edu.au.

Student Datasets

These datasets contain information about student enrolments and teaching load, and on the admissions process. The DEST datasets are reported each year at particular points in time as required by legislation, and are most useful for comparing figures between years or institutions. They are the source for official statistics, and are in general the most reliable data. The admissions reports and enrolment monitoring datasets are drawn from production systems (such as Student21). These are produced more frequently, and are useful for tracking short-term trends or for obtaining up to the minute information.

Staff Datasets

The primary source of information on staff at ANU comes from the DEEWR datasets. These are submitted once per year, and represent a snapshot of university staff at a particular date.

Research Data

These data provide information on research activity, its nature and purpose and the resources allocated to research. These are submitted to the Australian Bureau of Statistics once every two years.
