Codes and Classifications

Australian Standard Classification of Education

The Australian Standard Classification of Education (ASCED) replaces the ABS Classification of Qualifications (ABSCQ). It provides a basis for comparing administrative and statistical data on educational activities and attainment classified by level and field of study.

Higher Education Information Management System Help File

The Higher Education Information Management System (HEIMS) is developed and implemented by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), in consultation with Higher Education Providers and other stakeholders, as a central clearing-house for the collation and dissemination of higher education statistics and reporting.

Codes used by the HEIMS system and the Higher Education Client Assistance Tool (HEPCAT) are described in the HEIMS Help File. Several other useful coding and classification systems are collated in its appendices.

Indexed Rates for 2009

The University's funding is currently determined on the basis of the Commonwealth's contribution according to the 'Cluster' related to each course discipline. There is a corresponding Band allocated to each discipline and this determines the students' contribution. It is therefore useful to understand the relationships between discipline, cluster and band and how each of these is funded. Other indicative rates are also included.
