Pivot TablesIntroductionPivot tables are the primary way that Statistical Services provides access to the information contained in large historical datasets. They allow users to "slice and dice" the data by the fields (dimensions) that interest them, and to present the information in a format that provides the most relevant information possible. However they are a fairly specialised tool, and as such even those who are quite familiar with Microsoft Excel may have never seen one before. In order to facilitate the use of this powerful tool Statistical Services provides the following information on the use of pivot tables. Pivot Table ManualsThe following is a self-learn training manual intended to provide more technically-minded users already proficient in Excel a brief overview of the basic functionality of pivot tables. These are not intended to provide a complete reference. Users who require a more complete understanding of pivot tables or those unfamiliar with Excel should attend one of our half-day training sessions (below). Pivot Table Training SessionsStatistical Services runs pivot table training as half-day, instructor led group sessions. These are scheduled at intervals throughout the year, and can also be run on-demand. ANU Staff are able to enrol in sessions or register on the waitlist through the training section in HORUS. For further information contact Dave Marr. The course requires only a basic knowledge of Excel, and is free for ANU employees. |
