The
Australian National University was placed in the top band for teaching
excellence across its entire teaching profile in the Learning and Teaching
Performance Fund announced in early December at Parliament House by the
Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP.
In
her speech following the presentation of awards, Minister Bishop
congratulated ANU for being the only university placed in the band A1
across its entire teaching profile. But what goes into determining how
universities are ranked and how did these results compare to those
achieved in the previous year? >>
What
did new students think of their first year experience at ANU?
The
results of the 2006 First Year Experience Questionnaire show that on the
whole first year students are very happy with their university experience.
Staff quality also rated highly. >>
University
Admissions Index (UAI) cutoffs for ‘core’ programs offered at ANU, such as
B Arts and B Commerce, have been lowered to 75 for the main round of
offers through the University Admission Centre (UAC) this year. This is
down from an 83 UAI cutoff last year and 85 in 2005. Cutoffs for a number
of other programs have also been lowered compared with previous years.
This, combined with a two per cent increase in total UAC applications, has
caused ANU to record a 30 per cent increase in main round offers to
domestic students compared to last year. >>
