SHARON BAINBRIDGE

Stats Group 2009

The Australian National University - what a wonderful working environment I have been fortunate to stumble upon! A beautifully established campus nestling between the lake and the CBD, friendly staff welcoming with morning teas, lunchtime concerts at the School of Music, lunchtime tennis.

As a child, I grew up on the far north coast of NSW in close to idyllic circumstances. Once I finished high school, there was no where else to go but to the city – I chose Sydney and had 10 years of city living. There, I completed a Science degree in Mathematics and later worked in the banking industry, before looking for a quieter pace of life in Canberra. I have lived in this city for almost 19 years after moving here with partner, Alan and baby daughter for a trial period of 2 years in late 1990. For the past 10 years I worked at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs on their data warehousing project. I am looking forward to the challenges of the iMIS project!

I have two children, Sarah and Chris, who both study at the ANU. As they move closer to the end of their teenage years I have found more time to be able to pursue my musical interests. Four years ago, I stumbled on a wonderful community orchestra, the Maruki Community Orchestra that had just been established – it is open to anyone in the community who can read music and play an instrument – and am an enthusiastic player. I have finally reached that elusive work/life balance, pursuing a career and a hobby with passion.
